One of the earliest conspiracy theories to engulf The Marvels was that the title of the Captain Marvel sequel was changed in order to stem the tide of backlash and bile being thrown in the direction of star Brie Larson.

While it was inevitable that a lot of people would instantly jump to that conclusion based on their reaction to what might just be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s single most polarizing installment, a salacious new report from Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast has gone ahead and dumped a barrel of gasoline onto a fire that was barely simmering beforehand.

We should point out that the tales of behind the scenes woe have yet to be corroborated by anyone from Marvel, but the trolls will be rubbing their hands with glee nonetheless after Sneider claimed that not only have there have been heated disagreements between Academy Award-winning star Larson and newcomer Teyonah Parris, but the leading lady is allegedly upset that The Marvels was chosen as the film’s title at the expense of the MCU’s typical Superhero Name: Insert Subtitle Here formula that keeps Carol Danvers’ alter ego out of the nomenclature.

Going one step further, Sneider then offered that he’d heard from vague and mysterious “sources” that the entire production is “just a sh*t show” that’s devolved into what he described as “just kind of chaos.” Having recently been pushed back from July to November, you can imagine how the scuttlebutt is going to be interpreted, but it should be taken with at least one grain of salt until somebody associated with either The Marvels or its parent studio steps in to clear the air.
