Reshoots are reportedly underway on the Atlanta set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, if a social media post from actress Laura Harrier (Liz Allan) is to be believed.
First spotted by Reddit, the selfie was accompanied by an Instagram Story of Tom Holland and Zendaya hanging around on set, which indicates that the last-minute shooting revolves around Spidey and his high-school classmates. That’s merely conjecture for now, of course, and given how the word ‘reshoot’ has become such a loaded term in recent years – cast your mind back to the hullabaloo that threatened to engulf Rogue One last summer – don’t be too surprised if the Powers That Be keep the specifics under wraps.
Reshoots are, of course, a common and often essential part of the editing process. Spider-Man: Homecoming wrapped principal photography back in October, lending Marvel’s VFX team ample time to flesh out Spidey’s solo movie, cut out a handful of trailers and promos, and have the finished product printed and ready for July 7th – if not before. But as that vision begins to coalesce, it’s likely that Jon Watts and his creative cohorts have identified an area(s) in need of improvement. And so the reshoots are ordered. In times like these, it’s important to recall James Gunn’s candid words of wisdom when it comes to reshoots and/or pickups, the crucial difference being that the latter adds context or clarifies those scenes in question, while reshoots often herald the addition of new sequences.
Alongside today’s announcement, CBM has spotted a pair of promo images for the standalone pic, which you can go up close and personal with below. Joining Holland, Zendaya and Harrier for Homecoming are Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon and many, many more.
Bookended by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5th) and Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok (November 3rd), Spider-Man: Homecoming is expected to make a beeline for theaters on July 7th.
