Ricky Gervais Will Return To Host The Golden Globes In 2012

In an excellent decision by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Ricky Gervais has been invited to host the Golden Globes again next year, making it his third time in a row. After his performance earlier this year met with a lot of scrutiny from people who thought that Gervais went a little too far with his humor, taking jabs at many celebrities like Johnny Depp (who had been nominated for the critical disaster The Tourist), Tim Allen, and even the HFPA president, it’s a surprise that he would be invited back the very same year to host the star-studded event again.

Gervais is known as the creator of such hit shows as The Office and Extras which feature a rather dry sense of humor that can also be seen in films he’s starred in like The Invention of Lying. Yet, when he hosted the Globes back in January, he injected much needed energy into the usually bland ceremony with his roast-like humor. It’s just a shame that several people weren’t able to take a joke or two in a business where criticism is thrown around all the time, making it rather surprising that some celebrities can’t even deal with it when it’s nothing but a joke.

With Billy Crystal back hosting the Oscars and Ricky Gervais back hosting the Golden Globes, it looks like we’re in for some great awards shows next year.

The Golden Globes will air on January 15, 2012.
