Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes 2 Will Head Into Production This Summer

Coming Soon tells us that Tom Rothman, Chief Creative Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainmet, told them that filming on the sequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2, as it's tentatively titled, could begin as early as this Summer. So far, the only cast member that will return is Andy Serkis, no one else has been confirmed. Even director Rupert Wyatt hasn't officially said whether he'll be back or not.

It looks like FOX isn’t willing to waste anymore time on their sequel to 2011’s hit film Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Once the positive reviews started to roll in and the box office numbers began to climb, serious talks of a sequel got underway.

Coming Soon is reporting that Tom Rothman, Chief Creative Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainmet, said that filming on the sequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2 as it’s tentatively titled, could begin as early as this Summer. So far, the only cast member that will return is Andy Serkis, no one else has been confirmed. Even director Rupert Wyatt hasn’t officially said whether he’ll be back or not.

Of course, details on the story are also up in the air but really, it could go in a number of directions, thanks to the open ended nature of the first film’s ending, which left the writers a lot of possibilities for where they want to take their story.

Admittedly, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting and I didn’t care much for it. That being said, I’d be willing to see a sequel, granted they develop the storyline properly. The ending of the first film was the best part and if they could build off of that and take the story somewhere exciting, I’d be all for seeing a sequel.
