You’ve visited the House of 1000 Corpses and bore witness to The Devil’s Rejects; now it’s (almost) time to lay eyes on Rob Zombie’s latest creative effort, 3 From Hell. And it seems the long-rumored threequel is coming together quite nicely.
Yes, after the carnival-centric 31 back in 2016, the director’s returned to The Devil’s Rejects and its seedy universe, and it’s looking increasingly likely that the somewhat contentious filmmaker will be welcoming viewers on a trip into the fiery depths of the underworld in the not-so-distant future.
Production has now wrapped and that means it’s time to start editing. Unfortunately, though, it sounds like that process may take a while. Speaking with Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation, the director noted that he won’t get around to putting the finishing touches on the film until he returns from tour later this year – which will be in August.
“We’re done shooting it. And, basically, the process just stops and waits for me,” Zombie said. “Cause the film will just basically sit and wait till I get back from tour, which is the end of August, maybe… I don’t remember when [‘The Second Coming’] tour [with Marilyn Manson] ends… beginning of September. And then we’ll start editing. And that’ll take me through the rest of the year.”
Continuing on, he explained that editing could take up to half a year, which means that we won’t be seeing the film in 2018, unfortunately.
“The editing will be five or six months, maybe. But I like it. I have a studio at my house, and we just bring the editors there and set up and we just sequester ourselves away. It’s actually the same studio we make the records in; we just switch out the gear.”
So, with all that in mind, it’s looking like a mid-2019 release at this point – which means the threequel should be with us in roughly a year. That’s a long ways away, but in the meantime, we’ll be sure to bring you all the latest on 3 From Hell as the project continues to come together. With any luck, we’ll probably get a trailer before 2018’s finished up. Fingers crossed, eh?
