We’re now a mere eight days away from the release of Avengers: Endgame, and if the hype levels weren’t high enough already, Robert Downey Jr. has now offered some heavy praise for the closing minutes of the Avengers: Infinity War sequel.

In a new video from The Upcoming, the Iron Man actor singled out the film’s final eight minutes as possibly the best the MCU has offered to date:

“The last eight minutes of that movie are maybe the best eight minutes of the entire history of… the whole run of them, in a way, because everyone’s involved. So I was delighted.”

Perhaps Downey is a biased source for this claim, but he’s certainly not the only one who’s had some very kind words about the movie’s closing stretch. One of our own sources, for instance, has teased a final battle that’s “as massive as you’d expect,” and in a recent report from Deadline, word was relayed from an industry insider that the film’s second half is mind-blowing.

Meanwhile, co-director Anthony Russo told Box Office Pro last month that the upcoming flick had one of the best test audience responses in MCU history. All in all, things are looking pretty good for Endgame’s imminent release, though we’ll see what the critics think when the review embargo lifts on April 23rd.

But going back to Downey’s quote, his claim that “everyone’s involved” in the last eight minutes of Endgame could almost be taken literally, in that Joe and Anthony Russo are expected to juggle an overwhelming array of characters. Come to think of it, Thanos may even have a point about the MCU being overcrowded, though it’s likely the Russo Brothers will be trying a little population control of their own.

Specifically, it’s widely predicted that Avengers: Endgame will see the departure of various Phase 1 heroes, meaning that the last eight minutes of the movie might well be Iron Man’s last eight minutes of the franchise. Either way, we’ll see if the film’s finale is as brilliant as Downey says it is when the flick hits theaters on April 26th.
