Robert Downey Jr. Says Nobody Can Guess What Happens In Avengers: Endgame

Marvel released a new Avengers: Endgame featurette today that sees a few of the cast tease how high the stakes are going into what Brie Larson aptly describes as "the grand finale." Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., certainly has faith in how surprising the storyline will be, too, as he's confident fans won't be able to second-guess what the Russo brothers have got planned for everyone.

In the featurette, Downey proudly decrees: “I guarantee you there is no way anybody could guess what’s going to happen.” That’s a bold statement, to be sure, but it’d be fair to call Endgame the most closely-analyzed and theorized entry in the MCU yet, as fans have pored over every scrap of new or leaked info in an attempt to work out how things will play out for the OG Avengers and their pals in their final battle with Thanos. Seeing how much time and effort fans have put into thinking about how it could go, surely they’ve got some of it correct, right?

For instance, we’re all pretty certain that time travel will play a major part in the story, with the heroes using the Quantum Realm to travel back through their own personal history, presumably in order to prevent the Mad Titan from assembling the Infinity Stones in the first place. We’ve even gotten good at spotting when the trailers are lying to us.

Perhaps Downey Jr. is referring to the very end of the movie, then? In which case, he’d be right, as the fandom is yet to reach a consensus on how Endgame is going to wrap up. Will Iron Man die? Will Captain America die? Will both die? Will neither die? Will Howard the Duck swoop in and save everyone? We just don’t know, but we’ll soon see if we guessed anything correctly as Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
