Robert Redford And Jane Fonda Reunite In First Look At Netflix’s Our Souls At Night

Robert Redford and Jane Fonda are no strangers to one another's company. It was nearly fifty years ago when they played newlyweds in Barefoot in the Park, after which they co-starred in The Chase and The Electric Horseman. Now, they're set to star together once again in Netflix's upcoming movie Our Souls at Night, which had its first still released over the weekend.

Robert Redford and Jane Fonda are no strangers to one another’s company. It was nearly fifty years ago when they played newlyweds in Barefoot in the Park, after which they co-starred in The Chase and The Electric Horseman. Now, they’re set to star together once again in Netflix’s upcoming movie Our Souls at Night, which had its first still released over the weekend.

In their fourth outing together, Fonda and Redford play a pair of widowed neighbors who begin to sleep with one another … but not in the way you think. They literally sleep in the same bed, together. Get your mind out of the gutter. Though platonic, their relationship, nevertheless, becomes the talk of their small town. Bruce Dern, Judy Greer and Matthias Schoenaerts round out the cast.

While it’s odd to see such high-profile actors in a Netflix-exclusive, even post-House of Cards, it does make sense. Based on the last novel by Kent Haruf, Our Souls at Night doesn’t necessarily scream “cinematic spectacle,” and it’ll probably play just as well on the small screen — assuming it plays well, of course — as it would on the big screen.

As friends for nearly half a century, you can expect to see that tight, long-standing friendship and well-worn chemistry woven into the film, according to Fonda, who told EW the following:

“We show up for each other,” Fonda said to the publication. “We always have.”

In any case, we’ll be showing up, too — whenever Our Souls at Night decides to drop, that is. Slated for a 2017 debut, expect to see this one sooner than later. Maybe a spring release, perhaps? We’ll let you know once we find out for sure.
