Shrouded in mystery from the get-go, it’s only now that the cameras are rolling on the London set of Five Seconds of Silence that we’re beginning to learn more about Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming wartime thriller.

Finding Brad Pitt and Macbeth star Marion Cotillard in period garb, Zemeckis’ latest takes place in 1942 where, after receiving an order to assassinate a German ambassador, Max Vatan (Pitt) is dispatched to a war-torn North Africa. It’s here that Vatan crosses paths with Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard), a fellow assassin on an espionage mission in Casablanca.

Defying political backgrounds and, quite frankly, common sense, the pair fall madly in love with one another, though it isn’t long before dark secrets begin to emerge from their respective pasts, plunging their tried and tested bond into jeopardy.

Featuring an original screenplay by Steven Knight (Locke), the official synopsis for Five Seconds of Silence reads as so:

“Robert Zemeckis’ romantic thriller follows Max Vatan (Pitt) and Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard), two assassins who fall in love during a mission in Casablanca in 1942 to kill a German ambassador. A future together, however, is thrown into tumult when twisty secrets from their pasts cast doubts on their love for each other.”

Five Seconds of Silence will send Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard back to the throes of World War II when Zemeckis’ spy thriller touches down in theaters on November 23, 2016.
