Fast and Furious Spinoff The Rock Jason Statham

Dwayne Johnson Introduces Vanessa Kirby’s Character In Fast And Furious Spinoff Hobbs And Shaw

The Crown's Vanessa Kirby has joined the cast of Hobbs and Shaw as Jason Statham's MI6 Agent sister Hattie, and here's your first look at her in the role.

The indefatigable Dwayne Johnson is currently busy filming the first Fast and Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw and has someone he’d like to introduce us to.

Directed by Deadpool 2 helmer David Leitch, the pic will follow Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters as they do battle with a villain named Brixton played by Idris Elba. Also appearing will be The Crown‘s Vanessa Kirby, who’s swapping Princess Anne’s elegant 1950s ballgowns for something a little more grease-smeared to play Hattie Shaw, as seen in the photo down below.

The sister of Statham’s character Deckard Shaw, Johnson describes Hattie in his Instagram post thusly:

Hattie loves the following. Longs walks on the beach. Being a bad ass MI6 Operative. Drinking tequila with Hobbs. And not in that order. Hattie also happens to be the sister of Deckard Shaw, who’s played by @jasonstatham. It tortures him that his sister Hattie is kickin’ it with Hobbs. His pain ? makes me very happy.

So, it sounds as if there could be some romantic chemistry between her and Luke Hobbs. I can guarantee that’ll throw up some interesting sparks between the pair as they work together. But when the Shaw family’s around, you have to be on your guard – double-crossing is written into their DNA, as Shaw’s been pulling shock betrayals in pretty much every Fast and Furious movie he’s appeared in. Who knows, maybe her London roots might signify some connection or history with Elba’s Brixton…

Johnson finished off by saying:

“But what makes me happier is welcoming this crazy talented actress and cool chick to our movie. Havin’ a blast together. Building out the franchise step by step.”

Though there’ve been some rumblings that this spinoff has delayed the next proper movie in the franchise (and it can’t have helped with Johnson’s notorious feud with Vin Diesel), I just can’t say no to a hi-octane action movie starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba and a garage load of extreme rides. Can you?

I guess we’ll find out when Hobbs and Shaw zooms into cinemas on August 2nd, 2019.
