An Emotional Journey Awaits Rocket Raccoon In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, According To Sean Gunn

Ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Sean Gunn has shed new light on the emotional arc that awaits the gun-toting Rocket Raccoon.

Remember when Rocket Raccoon was written off as a throwaway character in a movie doomed to fail? How things have changed for the Guardians of the Galaxy. After introducing Marvel’s ragtag space crew to the masses two years ago with aplomb, director James Gunn is gearing up for another spacefaring adventure in 2017 and based on last month’s maiden teaser, Star-Lord and Co. haven’t lost their magic.

Yes, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently booked in for release on May 5, and though there are precious few details available regarding the sequel’s story, we now have word that Rocket Raccoon will undergo quite the emotional journey in a few months’ time.

That’s according to Sean Gunn, who provides motion capture for the gun-toting anti-hero. Chatting to Comic Book, the other Gunn teased that Rocket “has a lot of great stuff” in Guardians 2, before going on to reveal that our wisecracking raccoon will be wrangling with a sort of “crisis of faith” as he begins to question whether he belongs with the Guardians at all.

“Oh yeah! Rocket has a lot of great stuff to do in this movie. There are a few relationships that are central to the theme of the movie and that really go towards keeping a family, and Rocket has the same sort of crisis of faith about whether or not he belongs in this family.”

On the topic of that by-now infamous Guardians of the Galaxy Easter egg, Gunn stressed that it is absolutely real, and fans shouldn’t give up the ghost just yet. From Infinity Gems, Laika and even Peter Quill’s origins, James Gunn’s rip-roaring actioner is crammed full of wonderful moments, and it’s fair to say that viewers have combed through each and every frame of the 2014 actioner. Will fans ever discover said trinket? Here’s what Sean had to say:

“I feel like I should just take your $20 and then just make something up, but you see fans get crazy because these things that people want to know sooo badly. A lot of times my brother tells me these things, and I just forget them because they’re not all that important to me. It does exist…it definitely does exist. I don’t remember if he told me or not!”

Currently undergoing some minor reshoots, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is on course for May 5, 2017.
