It may not attract the same attention as, say, the annual Super Bowl for those out to see the latest movie trailers, but in a few hours’ time, Star Wars fans will be tuning in to catch the latest peek at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

From U-Wings to fleeting shots of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso in action, this week has brought forth the ol’ teaser-for-teaser spiel, but we now have the official synopsis for Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One, as our pack of misfits attempt to bring down the Empire’s “ultimate weapon of destruction.” Better known to you and I as the Death Star.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016.

Though it’s unlikely we’ll see any evidence of those reshoots – reshoots purportedly handled by Tony Gilroy – the creative changes to Rogue One continue to intrigue. Will they have much of a bearing on the final product come December? Time will tell.

At the forefront of Disney’s galactic rebellion are Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen as Jyn Erso’s wayward father, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story storms into theaters on December 16.
