Late last week, London played host to the annual Star Wars Celebration Europe, heralding scores of new and exciting tidbits for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and beyond.
Chief among them was a three-minute sizzle reel that took fans behind the scenes of Gareth Edwards’ offshoot. It wasn’t the only trailer to be shown in the English capital though, with an extended trailer description confirming that – similar to its treatment of The Force Awakens last year – Disney and Lucasfilm offered up a new peek at Rogue One in motion, unveiling Darth Vader in all his menacing, scenery-chewing glory.
When it comes to the former, /Film presented a frame-by-frame breakdown of the featurette, and has seemingly uncovered two surprise cameos. The first of which is Rebel leader Jan Dodonna, while another shot features Senator Bail Organa, the adopted father of Leia and a cornerstone of the push back against the Empire.
Originally portrayed by Jimmy Smits in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith – Phil LeMarr, meanwhile, lent his vocal chords to the role of Bail Organa for eight episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars – news that Leia’s step-father could potentially appear in Rogue One is not only exciting in and of itself, but it also teases the promise of yet more Easter Eggs to discover in the final feature.
Speaking of which, coming off the back of Star Wars Celebration Europe, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story shot up the social charts, briefly outpacing Warner and David Ayer’s Suicide Squad – the undisputed king of social media for the past month or so.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is on course for release on December 16.
