Rogue Spider-Man variant taken into custody after attacking a statue with a hammer

What universe is this one from?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be increasingly leaning on the concept of variants as the Multiverse Saga progresses, but it looks as though one might have escaped from its own timeline and made its way into ours after a man in a Spider-Man mask was arrested for climbing scaffolding and attacking a statue with a hammer.

It wasn’t just a random and unprovoked attack, to be fair; the statue outside of BBC headquarters at Broadcasting House was sculpted by Eric Gill, who was found to have been carrying out horrific acts of abuse when his diaries were discovered following his death in 1940.

Quite why the company hasn’t done anything about those questionable optics is anybody’s guess, but the statue of Shakespearean characters Ariel and Prospero was also defaced last year, so maybe they’ll get the message.

The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning, with police eventually taking the man into custody. You couldn’t make it up, but he was able to gain access to the target of his ire because the scaffolding surrounding it was put up due to the aforementioned previous attack carried out for the very same reasons, which once again leaves you questioning the thought process behind keeping it where it is.

After all, countless sculptures and statues with unsavory origins have been either taken down, moved, or gotten rid of entirely in recent times, but maybe they’re waiting for Batman or Superman to come along before something actually gets done about it.
