Ron Howard Teases Solo: A Star Wars Story With Exciting New Image

Solo: A Star Wars Story is mere months away now and we've still seen next to nothing from it. According to inside sources, though, that's about to change very soon, with a trailer rumored be dropping during the college football National Championship game on January 8th on ESPN. However, Ron Howard knows we're hungry for something, so while wishing us "Happy New Year from Team Solo," he's released the teasing image below of a pair of gloved hands on the wheel of a speeder.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is mere months away now and we’ve still seen next to nothing from it. According to inside sources, though, that’s about to change very soon, with a trailer rumored be dropping during the college football National Championship game on January 8th on ESPN. However, Ron Howard knows we’re hungry for something, so while wishing us “Happy New Year from Team Solo,” he’s released the teasing image below of a pair of gloved hands on the wheel of a speeder.

This picture gives rise to so many questions. For instance, whose speeder are we looking at here? Are those Han Solo’s hands? And why does it look suspiciously like the steering wheel and dashboard from Knight Rider? Does anyone have any answers?

One thing we can tell you is that Solo is absolutely carrying on the ‘dirty space’ aesthetic that Star Wars is famed for. Everything here looks appropriately dusty and jury-rigged, with the heap of loose cabling sitting just above the gear stick perhaps slightly hinting at the make-do-and-mend nature of the Millennium Falcon.

Hopefully, at least some of the above questions will be confirmed in the upcoming trailer, in which we’ll finally get an idea of the angle Disney/Lucasfilm and Ron Howard have taken with the production. I still hold out some faith that the movie is going to be good (partially because I don’t think I could deal with an objectively crappy Star Wars pic – and no, Caravan of Courage doesn’t count). That said, recent history indicates that extensive reshoots and changing directors mid-shoot doesn’t lead to great results, so we’ll have to see how things turn out.

Right now, Solo: A Star Wars Story is still slated for a May 25th release, though I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that was to slip back to Christmas 2018. After all, drop the film before it’s done and it’s bad forever, whereas everyone will soon get over a delay if the final product kicks ass, right?
