Speculation surrounding who will play Captain Marvel has persisted for years now, with names like Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson among the most popular suggestions from comic book fans and rumour sites alike. Now, however, we may finally have our Carol Danvers, as Variety reports that Brie Larson is in talks to take on the role.

While it sounds like it’s still early days in terms of where the negotiations are, the trade mentions that she’s definitely interested, and heading up a blockbuster franchise such as this one seems like a logical next step for the actress, who nabbed an Oscar (and countless other awards) for an incredible performance in Room earlier this year.

During the press tour for Captain America: Civil War, the Russo Brothers pretty much confirmed that Captain Marvel will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, hence why Marvel is casting the role so early, as production on that two-part epic begins later this year. As a result, we’ll no doubt hear something official on this very soon.

There’s still no word on who will direct Captain Marvel (though we may have an idea about that), but the screenplay is being written by Inside Out‘s Meg LeFauve alongside Guardians of the Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman.

Captain Marvel is currently set to be released on March 8th, 2019. Tell us, are you on board with Brie Larson taking the role? Sound off below and let us know!
