The first photos of Rooney Mara on the set of Steven Soderbergh‘s next film The Bitter Pill have arrived. The film, which has just started production in New York, features a slightly more traditional looking Mara than we’e used to seeing.

Mara, who we all known from her Academy Award nominated performance as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher‘s American adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, won’t be sporting piercing, tight leather or jet black hair in this role. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

The photos from Just Jared show Mara donning a much lighter hair colour and pretty normal clothes, which is certainly a change from her last film. She looks more like the Mara that we know from The Social Network.

The Bitter Pill is written by Soderbergh’s Contagion screenwriter Scott Z. Burns and follows a woman named Elizabeth (Mara) who “turns to prescription meds to cope with the anxiety of the upcoming release from prison of her husband.”

Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Vinessa Shaw will star and the film is aiming for a Spring 2013 release date.

The photos of Mara can be seen below.
