If Ruby Rose turned in a breakout performance in Orange is the New Black, 2017 will yield plenty of exciting roles for the Aussie actress in her continued rise to stardom. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, action threequel xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and John Wick: Chapter 2 will kick off Rose’s new year with a frenzied bang, and we now have word of another sequel to add to the bustling slate: Pitch Perfect 3.
Variety has the scoop, revealing that Ruby Rose will now star opposite the Barden Bellas in an unknown role. Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and Anna Camp are among the familiar faces on board thus far, and with production gearing up to begin early next year, we fully expect further casting announcements to surface in the coming weeks.
Director Trish Sie is at the helm having taken up the reins from Elizabeth Banks. Citing a stacked schedule and family commitments, Banks vacated the director’s chair after shepherding Pitch Perfect 2 to global success but don’t worry, the actress will return to produce and play irreverent commentator Gail.
Exactly how Pitch Perfect 3 will reunite the Barden Bellas – Beca and the gang graduated at the end of PP2, remember – is a conundrum that will be tackled by Kay Cannon, Mike White and Dana Fox, who will join forces to hash out a script. December 22, 2017 is the current release date for Pitch Perfect 3, after it bowed out of its initial July window due to that aforementioned director changeover.
