You’d think with the relentless media spotlight on next year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, practically every plot point and character from the blockbuster would have leaked out onto the Internet long ago, but here we are today with another unconfirmed rumor related to the hotly anticipated pic.
Scoopster Umberto Gonzalez, who hasn’t been fanning the flames of fan speculation so much as holding up the gasoline hose, is reporting that he’s uncovered Callan Mulvey’s mystery role in the flick. According to his sources, Mulvey is playing none other than Batman antagonist KGBeast, also known as Anatoli Knyazev, a servant of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor.
Months back, we picked up Birth.Movies.Death’s report that Knyazey would factor into the film. As per that site’s earlier scoop:
At any rate, one of Luthor’s agents has a name, and that name is Anatoli Knyazev. Hardcore fans will recognize that as the name of the KGBeast, a Batman villain introduced in 1988’s classic Ten Nights of the Beast storyline. In that story the Beast, an enhanced agent of the KGB, came to the US to kill ten targets, and he did it with extreme measures, including poisoning an entire 200 person dinner party to get one guy. He battled Batman to a standstill, and at one point when entangled in the Batrope the KGBeast cut off his own hand to escape. He of course put a cybernetic gun on the stump, as you do.
Though we shouldn’t expect to see the comic-book version of the KGBeast pop up in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Mulvey’s take on the character is still a nasty customer, who takes orders from Luthor and works to stay abreast of all the meta-humans’ activities in the movie. Of course, there’s a limit to how loyal to the comics any studio blockbuster can be, but it’s nonetheless exciting to see that the character is getting a big screen intro.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016.
