New Rumor Says Chris Evans Is Done With Captain America, But Will Direct For Marvel

We've heard too much about Avengers: Endgame being a grand finale to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it not to expect at least one of the founding heroes to die. The top choices are either Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man or Chris Evans' Captain America. The former has his contract expiring with Endgame, but most of the evidence still points to Evans hanging up his vibranium shield for good after Avengers 4.

That assumption was muddled, though, when director Joe Russo recently promised fans that the actor wasn’t done with Marvel just yet. But would Evans really be willing to sign on for several more movies as Cap when he’s repeatedly said for years that he’s ready to give up acting and switch to working behind the camera instead?

Well, a new rumor claims to reveal the answer to what’s actually going on here. A “leak” courtesy of 4Chan argues that Evans is definitely 100% finished with playing Steve Rogers. However, he’s going to continue his working relationship with Marvel as the studio’s apparently looking for him to direct some of their future efforts. Most likely he’ll helm a couple episodes of the House of Ideas’ upcoming Disney Plus series, but that remains to be confirmed.

As always, we should take any 4Chan rumors with a healthy handful of salt, but this would make a lot of sense from what we know. After all, Disney Plus has already proven to be a good platform for big name talent wanting to do some TV work, as The Mandalorian will feature episodes helmed by Taika Waititi, Rick Famuyiwa and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Evans could definitely sharpen his tools on one of the Marvel series – which might feature some of his old pals from the Avengers films – before maybe moving on to directing an MCU movie. That sounds like a situation that could please everyone, fans included, but we’ll just have to wait and see whether that turns out to be the case or not.
