Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may still be a full year from release, but that hasn’t stopped fans from chomping at the bit to uncover more about Warner Bros’ titanic showdown. Spoiler warning!

Still with us? Great. According to Badass Digest’s report, Dawn of Justice will still use The Dark Knight Returns as a major touchstone, though it’s understood there will be a number of significant differences between Frank Miller’s seminal comic and Snyder’s feature film. For one, it is Clark Kent who instigates the encounter between the titular pairing at the command of Lex Luthor. How and why exactly this plays out remains to be seen, but you can check out the as-yet-unconfirmed narrative snippet below.

In Batman v Superman Superman is no lackey of the government; if anything many of the world’s governments distrust the guy. But it is Superman who goes to Gotham and starts the confrontation… at the behest of Lex Luthor. And unlike The Dark Knight Returns, Superman comes out swinging, pulverizing the Batmobile with one punch. Why would Superman do Lex Luthor’s bidding? What is Lex hoping to accomplish? That would be spoiling. But know that when the fight is over, Batman will be able to point to Superman and say, “He started it!”

Again, it’s worth taking this one with a pinch of Kryptonian salt. Yes, Superman making short work of the Batmobile with one fell swoop would certainly be a fantastic scene — one that aligns with Snyder’s previous comments that one Batmobile would be destroyed in the film — though it does read a little too much like fan service for us to be invested.

Whatever the case, we’ll know for sure when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice makes it way to theaters on March 25, 2016. Tell us, what do you think of this rumor? Let us know your thoughts below.
