Russell Crowe Joins Allen Hughes’ Neo-Noir Drama Broken City

Deadline reports that actor Russell Crowe has signed on to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in Allen Hughes' next film Broken City. The $60 million feature made the 2008 Black List and will be Hughes' feature film directing debut without his brother and partner Albert Hughes (the pair are known in Hollywood circles as The Hughes Brothers and have helmed a number of films together including 2010's The Book of Eli).

Deadline reports that actor Russell Crowe has signed on to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in Allen Hughes’ next film Broken City. The $60 million feature made the 2008 Black List and will be Hughes’ feature film directing debut without his brother and partner Albert Hughes (the pair are known in Hollywood circles as The Hughes Brothers and have helmed a number of films together including 2010’s The Book of Eli).

The film, written by Brian Tucker, centers on a former cop-turned-private detective (Wahlberg) who is hired by the city’s Mayor (Crowe) to find out if his wife is having an affair. Soon after he confirms those suspicions, the wife’s lover turns up dead, and the P.I. is drawn into a political conspiracy centered around a real estate scandal.

I’ve always found the films by the Hughes Brothers to be cleverly done and I can’t wait to see how one brother handles a feature film project without the other. Crowe is a great addition to the cast and I’m a sucker for P.I. films so sign me up!
