I’m no fan of Zack Snyder, but I must admit he is assembling quite a cast for the Superman reboot Man of Steel, which is being put together by himself and Christopher Nolan. Today Variety reported that Russell Crowe will join the film and he will play Jor-El, the father of Superman. Crowe has apparently beaten out stiff competition from Sean Penn and Clive Owen to get the part.
I think this is an ideal bit of casting, Crowe certainly has a similar overbearing presence to his predecessor in the role, Marlon Brando and he does have the ability to pull it off. Russell Crowe is one of the finest actors around and he’ll bring a lot to the table here. I think this casting choice is going to work out very well.
Crowe joins a cast which is headed by Henry Cavill who will play Clark Kent/Superman and is joined by Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon and Diane Lane. The film is due for release late next year.
