Based on the sheer rate of projects he’s pumping out on a regular basis, Ryan Reynolds never stops working. Having only wrapped Netflix’s time traveling adventure The Adam Project a couple of months back, the actor is already hard at work on AppleTV+’s Spirited, a musical retelling of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol.

Reynolds will be playing the Ebeneezer Scrooge surrogate in the film, which is being written and directed by Daddy’s Home duo Sean Anders and John Morris. Will Ferrell co-stars as the Ghost of Christmas Present, with Mr. Robot and GLOW alum Sunita Mani as the Ghost of Christmas Past, and Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer is also on board as a co-worker of Reynolds’ character who tries to change his miserly ways.

Cameras have officially started rolling on Spirited, and it didn’t take long for the leading man to reveal the first behind the scenes image, which you can check out below.

Apple are clearly hedging their bets on Spirited becoming a massive success, based on nothing but the vast piles of money the company is throwing at the two stars. Reynolds and Ferrell are both listed as producers through their respective Maximum Effort and Gloria Sanchez banners, and are expected to pocket in excess of $30 million each from their contributions on either side of the camera.

There’s no word on a release date as of yet, but it’s obviously expected to arrive around the holiday season, whether that’s this year or next. Maybe once Ryan Reynolds gets this one out of the way having shot Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, Free Guy, Red Notice, The Adam Project and now Spirited in succession, he can finally begin focusing his attentions towards Deadpool 3.
