Samuel L. Jackson To Star In Saw Reboot With Chris Rock

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Samuel L. Jackson will be starring in Lionsgate's upcoming Saw reboot alongside Chris Rock.

Saw-Jigsaw

Given the pretty gruesome nature of the Saw franchise, it doesn’t have too many returning characters. There is one exception to that rule, however, in the form of Tobin Bell’s unforgettable turn as the Jigsaw killer, with most of the sequels focusing on his ‘interesting’ perspectives on righteous justice. Not even his death in Saw III was able to keep him away, as he’s still been involved in each outing in the series since.

Most recently, we got the chance to see his first ‘game’ in Jigsaw, and a lot of fans felt that this flashback to his formative days neatly wrapped up his story. After all, with eight films in the franchise, how much more of the character could we really explore? Well, apparently not very much, as we recently learned that the series will be rebooted, with Chris Rock teaming up with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures to deliver a new take on the property.

When the news first broke a while back, we were told that Rock was on board to executive produce the film, having penned a story that will be adapted by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. Set for an October 23rd, 2020 release, we don’t know too much about the project just yet, but Bloody Disgusting is now telling us that none other than Samuel L. Jackson will co-star in the film alongside Rock.

Unfortunately, the outlet is unsure of what roles the two actors will play, but this is obviously still hugely exciting. And with shooting currently underway, we imagine it won’t be very long now before Lionsgate issues some kind of announcement on the pic and hopefully sheds a bit more light on its plot and what we can expect to see.

Until then, though, we know that Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed second, third, and fourth films – as well as the cult classic Repo! The Genetic Opera – is back behind the camera for this one and early buzz is that Rock has come up with something pretty exciting. What that may be remains to be seen, but for now, it seems the Saw franchise is alive and well and we’ll be sure to keep you posted when we learn more about where it’s headed next.
