Nick Fury is back from the dead. Not that we were particularly worried, or anything…
Despite succumbing to the effects of Marvel’s snapture at the tail-end of Avengers: Infinity War (“motherfu–”), Samuel L. Jackson has announced his return as the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director – just in time for Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Filming on the 2019 sequel is already underway across parts of the United Kingdom, and earlier this morning, Jackson tagged himself in Watford (Leavesden Studios, perhaps?) via Instagram, all but confirming that he’ll be joining young Peter Parker for Marvel’s maiden voyage into Phase 4.
Keep in mind that Captain Marvel recently wrapped production, too, so while there’s a very small chance that Samuel L. Jackson is back in town to capture some additional ’90s-set scenes for Carol Danvers’ origins pic, the nature of this post (and caption!) strongly suggests that the OG Nick Fury is making a return. That, and the eyepatch…
Back to the familiar, the comfortable, the lovably fierce! Loving today’s mood! #Can’tkeepagoodmandown #deliriouslyfurious
The Nick Fury business card, the beard, that signature eyepatch – all hallmarks of the S.H.I.E.L.D. commander we know and love. Take it to the bank, folks; Nick Fury will still be a part of Marvel’s cinematic universe far beyond 2019.
One glance at the MCU calendar tells us Spider-Man: Far From Home is one of three Marvel movies currently slated for 2019, given it’s expected to follow in the footsteps of Captain Marvel and the so-far untitled Avengers 4.
Chances are Nick Fury will appear in at least two of those three – Captain Marvel, for instance, will call upon cutting-edge CGI to digitally de-age Samuel L. Jackson by 25 years – though in light of the actor’s most recent Instagram post, we have a sneaking suspicion he’ll be rubbing shoulders with everyone’s favorite Web-Head next summer.
