Did Samuel L. Jackson Inadvertently Confirm Red Skull For Avengers: Infinity War?

When we last saw Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, he was providing some much-needed assistance to Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron. During a recent interview to promote the release of Kong: Skull Island, Jackson reiterated the fact that he won’t be making an appearance in Black Panther, but when he alluded to what the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director has been up to since we last saw him, he revealed:

“You didn’t see me in [Captain America:] Civil War. I’m still out there trying to figure out what The Skull is going to…”

Unfortunately, he trailed off after that, but as you might expect, speculation is now running rampant that Jackson was talking about the Red Skull. It’s obviously entirely possible that the actor misspoke or was referring to Hydra, but it would certainly make sense for the Captain America: The First Avenger villain to return to the land of the living in Avengers: Infinity War.

When we last saw him, the Red Skull was seemingly blasted into another realm when he attempted to use the Tesseract. Ever since then, fans have speculated that he could be trapped somewhere and will be freed once Thanos adds it to the Infinity Gauntlet – and it looks like Jackson’s inadvertently confirmed as much.

Of course, if Fury has been hunting the Skull for some time, then perhaps he was released during the events of The Avengers when Loki used the Cosmic Cube to unleash the Chitauri army on Earth. We’ll just have to wait and see, but Avengers: Infinity War may have just become even more exciting today, if that was even possible.
