After a few years without him, Nick Fury is making a major comeback in the MCU of late. His cameo in Avengers: Infinity War was the first time we’d seen the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director since 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and now he’ll play significant roles in at least two of 2019’s Marvel movies, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Given that, fans suspected him to complete the set and show up in Avengers: Endgame, too. However, Samuel L. Jackson has hinted that he’s sitting this one out.
While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Jackson was asked if he’d read the full script for Endgame, with the legendary actor confirming that he hadn’t, joking that he only reads scripts for movies he’s actually in.
“Not Avengers: Endgame, no. I generally read the scripts I’m in. I don’t just go to my part [laughs].”
On the face of it, this isn’t much of a shock, as Fury turned to dust at the end of Infinity War. However, Far From Home is expected to take place after the events of Endgame and he seems to be alive and well in that. Plus, Endgame is set to be the finale of the first ten years of the franchise, so it surely wouldn’t be complete without an appearance from the man who brought the Avengers together in the first place, right?
Not to accuse Jackson of being a liar, of course, but it’s a possibility that the star’s just keeping Marvel’s secrets close to his chest here and we can indeed expect to see Fury in the fourth Avengers movie, even for a brief cameo that explains his resurrection in FFH. After all, it’s thought that none of the cast got to read the entire script for Endgame so, in that regard, Jackson would’ve been telling the truth.
In any case, all will be revealed when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th. First, though, you can catch the young Nick Fury on March 8th in Captain Marvel.
