Samuel L. Jackson Wants To Keep Playing Nick Fury

Though Nick Fury met a sad end in Avengers: Infinity War, the character is already confirmed to return in at least two of this year’s three MCU releases, with Samuel L. Jackson reprising the role for both Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. What’s more, it sounds like Jackson’s run in the superhero saga is far from finished, with the actor recently indicating to The Hollywood Reporter that Fury still has plenty of life in him yet.

The newly published article notes that Captain Marvel will mark the end of Jackson’s nine-picture deal with Marvel Studios, before adding that Jackson “has no plans of retiring the character.” Indeed, the star has already wrapped his scenes for Far From Home, and according to THR, the actor “would happily play the part into his 80s,” with Jackson himself quoted as saying, “I could be the Alec Guinness of Marvel movies.”

What exactly Marvel has lined up for Jackson beyond Far From Home is still to be confirmed, though a report from last year suggested that Fury may have his own Disney Plus show in the works.

In any case, Jackson’s next MCU outing is set to be Captain Marvel, which will see Nick and Carol Danvers form an alliance that co-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have likened to buddy-cop films such as 48 Hrs. and Lethal Weapon.

Of course, if the two of them are such great pals, then the question is raised of why the pair fell out of contact for so many years, but we’ll apparently get some answers when Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, 2019. After that, don’t be surprised if Nick Fury also finds a way of showing up in Avengers: Endgame, which comes out on April 26th.
