Venerable concept artist and all-round Star Wars veteran Iain McCaig claims Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo Anthology film boasts one of the best screenplays in Star Wars history.
Word comes by way of Uproxx, relaying McCaig’s comments from the Art and Industry of Imagination conference. It was here that the creative talent – best known for his artwork on The Force Awakens – touched base on how future films in Disney’s galactic saga are shaping up. When it comes to Lord and Miller’s origins story, it seems Star Wars fans are “in for a treat.”
Uproxx cautions that McCaig’s comments are paraphrased somewhat, but the general gist of the artist’s speech still stands as a stellar vote of confidence.
“[The Han Solo movie] has by far the best Star Wars script, and one of the best scripts period, that I have ever read,” he recently revealed after being asked about how the movie is shaping up. “I laughed, I cried, I did all the things you should do when reading a good script. You’re in for a treat.”
Working in tandem with series stalwart Lawrence Kasdan, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the creative pair nurturing the spinoff’s script. It’ll welcome newcomer Alden Ehrenreich in the role of the famous, roguish smuggler and only when the film arrives in May of 2018 will be discover if McCaig’s acclamation was on the money.
Disney’s Han Solo Anthology film will step before the cameras in early 2017.
