Set to screen before Disney’s Beauty and the Beast this coming weekend, it’s no wonder Paramount has cut together a more family-oriented preview of Michael Bay’s blockbuster sequel and, frankly, it works remarkably well. By focusing on Moner’s Izabella and her small pocket of friends, as opposed to the signature Bayhem the franchise is celebrated/denounced for, audiences are able to see The Last Knight through a human lens.

It’s an area in which previous Transformers movies have come up short, to say the least, and Isabela Moner’s impassioned speech – “yeah, I fight like a girl…don’t you?” – coupled with the moments of her waging a guerrilla war against the invading Decepticons, leaves us feeling cautiously optimistic that The Last Knight will introduce the kind of compelling, well-rounded heroine that fans have been crying out for for the past decade. That’s the glass-half-full perspective, of course, but compared to previous promos, this all-new trailer will surely generate a substantial wave of excitement for Michael Bay’s fifth entry into the blockbuster series ahead of its debut in June.

Featuring a cast comprised of old faces and new – namely Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Stanley Tucci and John Turturro – Transformers: The Last Knight storms into theaters on June 23rd. Other projects that have been conjured up within Paramount’s writers room include a Bumblebee spinoff movie – Travis Knight has been appointed at the helm for that one – along with a sixth mainline entry into the studio’s flagship series that’ll presumably release in 2019. Where Transformers goes from there, however, is anyone’s guess.
