Godzilla: King Of The Monsters’s Secret Villain May’ve Been Revealed

The trailers for Godzilla: King of the Monsters tease an all-out melee between the atomic-breathed lizard and a fierce array of beasts from kaiju cinema history, but since giant insects and reptiles don’t usually make for the most relatable of characters, you can also expect a fair amount of human drama in the mix to up the emotional stakes.

For one thing, it was reported last year that Dr. Emma Russell and her daughter Madison – played by Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown, respectively – will be kidnapped by a “mysterious organization with their own plans for the creatures,” and thanks to a recent toy leak, the name of this shady group may have just been revealed.

In the various trailers and stills that we’ve seen from the upcoming release, a distinctive-looking aircraft pops up on more than one occasion, usually seen flying in the vicinity of monsters like Rodan and King Ghidorah. The plane even features as part of a Ghidorah toy set, which labels the vehicle as the “Argo Jet.”

While the MonsterVerse already has one mysterious organization named Monarch that aims to protect the world from its various Titans, Screen Rant has suggested that Argo could be the villainous flipside, linking this name to rumors that the film will feature eco-terrorists who aim to use these monsters to punish mankind for the harm it causes to the environment. If all this is true, then it only figures that Argo would want to kidnap Dr. Russell, seeing how she’s found a way to communicate with and potentially control the creatures.

Regardless, we’ll see what part humanity has to play in the clash between giants when Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters on May 31st, 2019.
