Hollywood has been trying to get a film based on the hit video game series Uncharted into production for a while now and so far, they haven’t had much luck. Several directors (David O. Russell, Neil Burger) have boarded and subsequently departed the project and for a long time it seemed like nothing would ever come to fruition.

Today, it finally looks like things are about to get going again on this one as Deadline is reporting that Seth Gordon, most well known for his excellent documentary The King of Kong and comedies like Identity Thief and Horrible Bosses, is being brought on board to helm the film.

For those unfamiliar with the video game series, it focuses on treasure hunter Nathan Drake and his Indiana Jones-style adventures. There’s no word yet on what the script, penned by David Guggenheim, will revolve around, but I imagine it will likely stick pretty close to the story of the first game in the trilogy.

With production set to get underway later this year, casting for the film should start taking place shortly. Nathan Fillion has long been a fan favorite for the role of Drake but as we’ve seen in the past, fans don’t always get what they want. At one point, Mark Wahlberg was in talks to play the part but that was back when David O. Russell was still on board. For now, it’s safe to assume that the search for a leading man is going to start fresh.

Tell us, what do you think about Seth Gordon directing the Uncharted movie? Do you think it will finally get off the ground this time?
