Seth MacFarlane Is Planning A Family Guy Movie

Now that Family Guy has been providing you with cutaways of varying hilarity for well over ten years, the inevitable movie project was always on the cards. Now that Family Guy has been providing you with cutaways of varying hilarity for well over ten years, a movie version always seemed somewhere on the horizon. Well, Seth MacFarlane – who was recently harassed by a group of UCLA students – has confirmed that a feature-length movie version is in the works, hopefully one better than that straight-to-DVD thing about Stewie travelling back in time and finding out he was gay. Here’s what MacFarlane had to say:

“It’s just a matter of when. The Simpsons Movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that it’s a story they probably could’ve done on TV. That’s the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV.”

MacFarlane knows a thing or two about movies nowadays, given that his directorial debut, Ted, emerged a box office smash worldwide, raking in over $200 million. Of course, the big joke of Family Guy: The Movie will presumably turn out to be that the entire movie is a cutaway in itself, something which a) could never be done on television and b) stays true to the Family Guy formula. Or maybe the joke will be that the movie is actually funny, unlike the series it derives from, which no longer is. Ha! I’m laughing already.
