The cast of Shane Black’s upcoming Predator remake just keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it? Already set to star Boyd Holbrook, Sterling K. Brown, Olivia Munn and Keegan-Michael Key, among others, the action film has just added another impressive individual to its roster in the form of Thomas Jane.
The Hollywood Reporter are the ones breaking the news, and though they don’t have specifics on Jane’s role, they do note that the project is quickly putting together the rest of its cast before it heads into production next month in Vancouver. As such, we can expect to hear more in the very near future.
Though he’ll likely fall into one of the supporting roles, Jane’s involvement in The Predator is great news. He hasn’t done a studio film in a while and given that he’s one of Hollywood’s most underrated talents, we’re glad to see him sign on here. If you cast your mind back many years ago, you’ll remember that the actor seemed destined for the big leagues after starring in a couple of high profile films in the late 90s and early 00s.
Of course, there was also his lead role in 2004’s The Punisher, which is what most will probably know him for, but Jane has done some great work on television, too. Most notably in HBO’s Hung, which really didn’t get as much love or attention as it deserved. It only lasted a few seasons, but the actor’s stuck around over the years, grabbing parts here and there and keeping himself busy.
From what we understand, Black’s upcoming effort will be shifting the sci-fi action to the suburbs, with the studio angling it as an R-rated thriller that can hopefully sidestep the pitfalls that Nimród Antal’s re-imagining succumbed to seven years ago. Without knowing too much about it just yet, we’re not sure it’ll be able to find much more success, but we’re certainly hopeful. Black’s an excellent filmmaker and the cast is promising. Let’s just hope it doesn’t make the same mistakes that so many other reboots of 80s action movies often make.
The Predator will be dragged kicking and screaming into theaters on February 9th, 2018.
