After teetering on the brink of production for years, Shane Black’s reinvention of the Predator franchise is finally beginning to gain a sense of momentum, and even boasts a teaser poster of its own to prove it.
Tentatively placed for release in early 2018, early reports emerging from production have indicated that Black’s sequel will remain true to the primal nature of John McTiernan’s cult classic, and we now have word that talks are about to get underway to welcome aboard Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When asked about a potential role in the Predator reboot by the folks over at The Arnold Fans, Schwarzenegger revealed that his character Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer could go up against the titular extra-terrestrial once more.
“I haven’t talked with [Shane Black] yet but I’m going to meet with him for lunch sometime soon. Just as soon as I’m finished with [Arnold’s Sports Festival] and ‘The Apprentice’ and all this stuff. But I will get together with him. If there is any news, we’ll of course let you know right away. There’s also a meeting coming up soon about ‘Conan,’ about the project moving forward.”
Reprising the roles of yesteryear is fast becoming a trend for the ‘Govenator,’ who starred opposite Emilia Clarke in last year’s dismal Terminator Genisys. There’s also the long-gestating Legend of Conan reboot simmering in the works, and early signs point to Schwarzenegger having a minor role in the eventual Predator reboot as a slice of fan service. Whether that’s a necessary addition, however, is something we’ll leave to you.
Predator has placed its crosshairs on a March 2, 2018 release.
