Sharknado 3 Confirmed: Will We Ever Be Safe From Man-Eating Weather Again?!

I know what you're all thinking - Sharknado 2: The Second One hasn't even been released, yet SyFy is green-lighting another Sharknado sequel? Obviously that's just a testament to how good this second Sharknado touchdown is going to be, presumably blowing studio executives away during some hidden behind-the-scenes screenings. Audiences are never going to get sick of Sharknados! There's no way they only tuned into the original because of how ludicrous Anthony C. Ferrante's pop-culture phenomenon sounded! The best things come in threes - The Godfather trilogy, Neapolitan ice cream, the only Star Wars movies that matter (so far), the Hanson brothers - and now Sharknado. Like it or not, we're getting Sharknado 3.

I know what you’re all thinking – Sharknado 2: The Second One hasn’t even been released, yet SyFy is green-lighting another Sharknado sequel? Obviously that’s just a testament to how good this second Sharknado touchdown is going to be, presumably blowing studio executives away during some hidden behind-the-scenes screenings. Audiences are never going to get sick of Sharknados! There’s no way they only tuned into the original because of how ludicrous Anthony C. Ferrante’s pop-culture phenomenon sounded! The best things come in threes – The Godfather trilogy, Neapolitan ice cream, the only Star Wars movies that matter (so far), the Hanson brothers – and now Sharknado. Like it or not, we’re getting Sharknado 3.

Syfy and The Asylum were plenty excited to let the world know, announcing the following press release:

Sharknado 3 Press Release

ANOTHER CITY WILL FACE TOTAL DESTRUCTION WHEN SHARKNADO 3 PREMIERES ON SYFY IN SUMMER 2015, NEW ORIGINAL MOVIE TO BE PRODUCED BY THE ASYLUM

NEW YORK – April 30, 2014 – Los Angeles and New York were not enough! Syfy and The Asylum today announced that yet another city will be devoured by flying sharks when the new Original Movie Sharknado 3 premieres on Syfy in Summer 2015.

Sharknado already leveled Los Angeles, and Sharknado 2: The Second One is ravaging New York City, so where could our series possibly go next? Your guess is as good as mine, but you’re going to have to think coastal. Really narrows the choices down, right? Who knows, maybe The Asylum will go international this time, shelling out big bucks to go film overseas? Sorry, that was sarcasm – that won’t happen, as the most we’ll get is some B-Movie sound stage dressed up like a Japanese city. Godzilla Vs. Sharknado?!

As for Sharknado 2: The Second One, you can catch the premiere on Syfy on Wednesday, July 30 at 9PM (ET/PT). Starring old faces Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, they’re joined by Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer and Judah Friedlander as New York City experiences the horrors of flying aquatic murderers. Hopefully we’ll get more chainsawing and chomping, and at least Judah Friedlander can show some sharks how the World Champ handles natural disasters. Plus, if you hated Sugar Ray, I bet lead singer Mark McGrath gets eaten!

So we have no details, no casting, and no word on whether Ziering or Reid will appear in Sharknado 3, but we do know one thing – it’s happening. Just when you thought it was safe to walk about your dry city streets again, Sharknado is returning for yet another bout of destructive shark attacks.

Is it just me, or is this franchise starting to feel a lot like The Human Centipede franchise? Then again, Sharknado is over 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, so maybe I should just shut up and see if Sharknado: The Second One redefines Z-Movie history.

Never judge a book by its cover, or a tornado by the sharks swirling around it.
