Shazam Producer Reveals Whether The Hero Will Join The Justice League

The DC Extended Universe is believed to be making a fresh start when it returns to the silver screen after a break of just over a year. Sure, the adventures of familiar characters like Arthur Curry and Diana Prince will continue in the likes of Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984, but the thinking is that there'll be a push towards standalone storytelling in the future and less of the world-building seen in the likes of Justice League.

That said, with new heroes being introduced, we can’t help but wonder whether the ranks of the team will swell in the next installment. For instance, Zachary Levi will make his debut as Shazam in April. As a member of the League in the comics since the 1980s, it’s not far-fetched for fans to want to see Billy Batson rub shoulders with his fellow heroes in the movies. But what are the chances of this happening?

Well, it seems that it might be on the cards. When asked if the hero formally known as Captain Marvel could show up in Justice League 2, Shazam! producer Peter Safran seemed positive about the possibility, saying:

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Shazam play a role in the DCU. He exists in that world.”

The expansion of the League’s roster would definitely fit with the hints given at the end of the first film. For one, Bruce Wayne’s shown to be renovating Wayne Manor into a version of the Hall of Justice, complete with a giant table for all the Leaguers, with Wonder Woman pointing out that they should leave “room for more.” Hopefully we can count Shazam amongst those new recruits.

If recent rumors are correct, we might even get a tease that Shazam will make some new superfriends in his upcoming solo movie. Word has it that Henry Cavill will make a cameo appearance as Superman, which could see him welcoming Batson into the League. We’ll find out if that’s the case when the film strikes into theaters on April 5th, 2019.
