The warring daughters of Thanos are at loggerheads in the latest TV spot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn’s galactic sequel that’s due for release early next month.

And by that, we are, of course, referring to Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan), the volatile mercenaries that were initially kidnapped and raised under the Mad Titan from a young age. Unsurprisingly, their relationship is the textbook definition of dysfunctional, and up above you’ll get a peek at the moment when that underlying tension bubbles to the fore. That sisterly dynamic is one of two major family-centric storylines to feature in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with the other being between Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill (AKA Star-Lord) and his wayward old man, Ego, the Living Planet.

It’s a reunion that has been long on the cards, particularly after James Gunn teased Papa Quill at the tail-end of Guardians of the Galaxy three years ago. The director isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to Ego’s reveal, either, having drafted in fractal artist Hal Tenny to help craft the character’s otherworldly form. Once that reunion takes place and Star-Lord has had his mind suitably blown – along with the rest of us, of course – it’s Kurt Russell that will embody Ego’s human form, and Gunn has talked at length about how the Hollywood veteran is essentially the perfect fit for the part.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be with us on May 5th, and yes, it’ll include a handful of IMAX shots for good measure. A third Guardians movie has already been floated but at least so far, James Gunn has been coy about committing to the proposed threequel in fear that it’ll detract from Vol. 2‘s release, so stay tuned for more on that one.
