Before Eastwood took over, Steven Spielberg was attached to direct and at that point, Evangeline Lilly was said to be the frontrunner for the female lead role. When Clint came on board, he had his eye on Kate Mara. Due to her casting in Fantastic Four though, she couldn’t take the part and the race was then narrowed down to Alexander and Miller.

Penned by Jason Hall and set to go into production next month, the film will have Cooper playing the titular sniper and Miller starring as his wife. Based on the novel of the same name, American Sniper is already one of 2015’s most promising films, with Oscar written clearly all over it. Looking to deliver a “gripping, eye-opening, and powerful” story, with Eastwood and Cooper leading the charge, it’s hard not to be pretty excited about the project. At this point, it doesn’t look like much can go wrong and I expect no less than another stellar outing for the red-hot Bradley Cooper.
