The Amazing Spider-Man comes out tonight and fans everywhere are getting ready to see Spider-Man and The Lizard battle it out on the big screen. But before that happens, the producers of the movie, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, have already talked with Superhero Hype about the future of the franchise and have hinted at the possibility of building up to a Sinister Six showdown in the future.

When asked about using the villains from the Sam Raimi films, they had this to say:

“There are so many ways to paint these villains, all of them. As you know, one of the great sagas in the Spider-Man universe is of course the Sinister Six. I think “Avengers” did okay the last time I looked.

It all depends on the stories that one wants to tell, because Spider-Man is really more a depth kind of a story, we have to be careful how many villains we can service, because a relationship with a villain has to be such that it’s a story on his own. We attempted to do multiple villains–you’ve been there–you just need screen time to do it.”

They also reminded us that contrary to popular belief, the Kingpin could be used in a Spider-Man movie as he is not owned by Fox.

The producers then went on to mention their plans to expand the Spider-Man universe and bring in some additional characters for the next outing.

“One of the things that Matt and I are working on is the expansion of the universe. The Spider-Man Universe, as you know, has very interesting characters. We didn’t even get yet to Robbie (Robertson) and J. Jonah Jameson. We didn’t get to John Jameson, and we didn’t get yet to Mary Jane, so we are kind of peeling the onion and looking for what will be the most compelling and interesting relationships within the Spider-Man universe to continue and sometimes spin them off – that’s an opportunity.”

Personally, I would love to see Spider-Man face off against the Sinister Six at some point and I also can’t wait to see the addition of the rest of the Spider-Man supporting cast, especially Mary Jane and J. Jonah Jameson. There really are so many opportunities in regards to where they can go next and where they can take the character and the universe.

It seems like Tolmach and Arad have some very exciting things in store for us and I’m looking forward to seeing where they take us with their new vision of Spidey.

Catch The Amazing Spider-Man as it hits theaters tonight in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D.
