Like it or lump it, Solo: A Star Wars Story is a fun-filled caper about the best damn smuggler in the galaxy.
And while it endured a tough spell in production – for the record, Ron Howard was brought in at the 11th hour to pick up the pieces from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who were fired due to creative differences with Lucasfilm – Solo still managed to pull in close to $400M worldwide and scores of positive reviews.
It could’ve been a little longer, too, as evidenced by this newly-unveiled deleted scene from USA Today (h/t YouTube). There are eight in total, meaning the Solo Blu-ray is practically a must-own for Star Wars fans. In keeping with tradition, Lucasfilm’s standalone pic will grace digital platforms first on September 14th, before expanding to Blu-ray and DVD two weeks later.
And here’s a little appetizer of what to expect:
This deleted scene in question follows Han (Alden Ehrenreich) and Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke) as they evade a pack of Corellian hounds. They’ve stashed a piece of stolen coaxium, and are hoping to avoid a run-in with enemy forces. Doing so requires quick-thinking and a little bit of luck, as we see our star-crossed duo plunge into some sort of metal container filled with slimy eels – a neat bit of foreshadowing to the moment when Han and Leia are trapped in a garbage disposal on board the Death Star, as USA Today so rightly points out.
Solo: A Star Wars Story hits digital platforms first next Friday, September 14th before expanding to Blu-ray and DVD. For further details on all the bonus content included on Lucasfilm’s home video release, check out this handy breakdown.
