Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Sony Developing Spider-Verse Spinoff For Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir

Last December's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse turned out to be a major win for Sony. As well as a solid box office performance, it's beloved by fans and went and landed itself both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. It's no surprise that the studio is already working on both a sequel and a Spider-Women spinoff, then. What's more, though, is that we're hearing that additional Spider-Verse movies could be in the works.

A source has told We Got This Covered that Sony’s developing a spinoff for Spider-Man Noir. The gun-toting black and white wall-crawler played a major supporting role in the first Spider-Verse as one of the team of Spiders that aids Miles Morales and Peter B. Parker in defeating Kingpin’s plot to destroy the multiverse. He was memorably voiced by the one and only Nicolas Cage and thankfully, the intention’s to get the actor back to reprise the role for this spinoff.

Spider-Man Noir first debuted as part of the Marvel Noir comics line back in 2009. Originally a darker character, Spider-Verse made him more family-friendly by playing up his brooding personality for comedic effect. In many ways, he’s the LEGO Batman of the movie and if Will Arnett’s Dark Knight can get his own flick, we don’t see why a solo vehicle for Spidey Noir couldn’t work.

Granted, a few years ago, it would have been ridiculous to consider the possibility of this obscure hero having his own film but hey, this is the wonderful world we live in now. Still, “developing” is a word with a flexible meaning, so we probably shouldn’t take it as red that this will happen. Sony could just be entertaining the idea at the moment as they work out how to make the best of this newborn hit franchise they have on their hands.

Tell us, though, would you like to see a Spider-Verse spinoff featuring Spider-Man Noir? Let us know in the comments section down below.
