It’s a disappointing, if unsurprising update from the studio’s fledgling Marvel Universe, which is due to flicker into life this October thanks to Ruben Fleischer’s Venom.

For Silver & Black, we know The Secret Life of Bees filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood is at the helm for this one, having helped penned the script alongside Lindsey Beer. All of this can be traced back to the film’s script, which is seemingly in need of some polish before production can begin in earnest. At least, that’s the word from Gina Prince-Bythewood herself, who told Screen Rant earlier in the week that filming won’t kick off until the story is up to snuff.

The update is just really pounding out the script. It all starts with the script. You gotta have a great script so we want to make sure that’s right before we jump in.

Angled as part of Sony’s fledgling Marvel Universe – ditto for Nightwatch and Morbius, the Living Vampire – the Silver & Black movie has already attracted a slew of high-profile writers into its midst, after the likes of Lisa Joy Nolan (Westworld), Christopher Yost, Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet all took a pass at the spinoff’s script, before the latter two produced this current version.

No word on the film’s latest release date just yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
