‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ beats out the Superhero trailer competition across Marvel and DC

Let's be real: it looks incredible.

The trailer for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse debuted yesterday and it’s already breaking viewership records left and right. The trailer’s only been out about 24 hours and it’s already the most-viewed second trailer for that time period in Marvel history.

Deadline is reporting that it’s also the most-viewed superhero trailer of the summer so far. View count has hit more than 148 million views and is #2 on YouTube’s trending charts. Here’s the synopsis:

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

It doesn’t hurt that the movie’s predecessor was a monster hit that redefined what was possible in a superhero movie by turning all expectations on their head. Other superhero trailers out right now don’t have those numbers and those have been out for a while.

For example, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is sitting around 117 million views and The Flash, which is widely expected to be a super smash, is hovering around 82 million views.

The newest Spider-Verse movie is one of two upcoming sequels to the Oscar-winning original, and it continues the story of the first. Protagonist Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) reunites with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and meets a whole civilization of different Spider-people, including Spider-Man 2099 and a slew of others.

It also doesn’t hurt that the movie looks amazing. Check out the trailer below.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2.
