‘Spider-Man’ director’s ‘Skeleton Crew’ will bring a new perspective to the ‘Star Wars’ universe

'Skeleton Crew' has all the makings of an unexpected hit.

We know virtually nothing about Skeleton Crew, other than the fact that it takes place in the same time period as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka and stars Jude Law as the main lead.

Lucasfilm has yet to unveil even concept art for Skeleton Crew, just to give fans an idea of what they should be looking forward to, but based on the breadcrumbs laid down here and there, we know the show will take place in the New Republic era, just before the events of the sequel trilogy. The story follows a group of ten-year-olds who get lost in the galaxy far, far away and have to find their way home, thus creating the very Skeleton Crew of which the title speaks.

Perhaps more exciting than Jude Law’s inclusion is Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts spearheading the project as its main creative force. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are also supervising, but Skeleton Crew will be mostly Watts’ ship.

Now, according to what Favreau has revealed in an interview with Variety, Skeleton Crew will be similar to Andor in that it tries to do something much different from what you’re used to seeing in the world of Star Wars.

“Each storyteller brings their own personality to it,” Favreau said of the so-called MandoVerse. “The groups that are working on [Skeleton Crew] are led by Jon Watts, whom I collaborated with on all the Spider-Man movies. This has been a real fun time and the great filmmakers that he’s engaged with have been bringing their perspectives as well.”

With the sequel trilogy casting a dark shadow on our viewing experience when it comes to the story’s fundamental concepts, like the battle between the Jedi and the Sith, not to mention the Skywalker family’s drama, projects like Skeleton Crew and Andor are a much-appreciated change of pace, so we can’t wait to see more of the former when it premieres sometime in 2023.
