Peter Parker got a Stark-approved upgrade to his suit at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, as the Iron Spider armor was unveiled for the very first time. Though Peter turned down the suit, as well as the official Avenger status that came with it, he soon changed his mind in Infinity War when the world needed all the help it could get in defeating Thanos. Despite the name, though, the MCU’s Iron Spider armor only superficially resembles the one from the comics.
Some new concept art from Ed Natividad that was done up for Homecoming reveals what might’ve been, though. The mock-up of an early version of the scene where Iron Man presents the new suit to Peter features a rendering of the Iron Spider outfit that’s practically lifted straight off the page, complete with a red and gold color scheme and the appendages that extend from the back of the suit.

It’s unknown how seriously and for how long Marvel considered using a more faithful version of the Iron Spider in Homecoming. It’s possible they always intended to redesign it and this concept art just includes a comic accurate one as the final costume wasn’t ready yet. Whatever the case, despite how awesome the armor looked in Infinity War, we do wish this classic yellow and gold iteration got to appear in some form.
At present, it’s unknown if the Iron Spider will show up in future Marvel movies. I mean, sure, it disintegrated along with its owner at the end of Infinity War, but we know that Peter Parker’s coming back, so there’s nothing stopping his clothes from returning, either. If it does, maybe Stark will give it another upgrade to make it resemble this one from the Spider-Man: Homecoming concept art. Fingers crossed, eh?
