While Jake Johnson assumes the role of an older-than-usual Peter, the lead part goes to Shameik Moore, whose character Miles can apparently turn invisible when threatened with danger. Also spotlighted in this teaser is Gwen Stacy, played by Hailee Steinfeld, who assumes the guise of Spider-Gwen in “another ‘another dimension.’”

Nicolas Cage, meanwhile, makes a quick appearance as Spider-Noir, while Kimiko Glenn is introduced as SP//dr in a brief anime parody. And just when Peter comments that this literally could not get any weirder, John Mulaney shows up as Spider-Ham.

So far, the promotion for the film is putting a lot more emphasis on the parallel universe premise and the meeting of these various Spider-People than the actual plot which these characters will be embarking on. From the looks of things, however, the team will have plenty of enemies to fight, including a more vicious-looking Green Goblin than we’ve previously seen on the big screen, and a new Kingpin, the latter of whom seems to be the one to bring these various realities together through his use of a super-collider.

But regardless of what world-hopping story Sony has lined up for us, the eye-popping animation just might be reason enough to give Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse a chance when it swings into theaters on December 14th.
