Yesterday, the final Marvel Cinematic Universe film of the year hit theaters, and fans couldn’t wait to see it for themselves. Spider-Man: Far From Home finally wraps up Phase 3 of the MCU – which kicked off back in 2016 with Captain America: Civil War – and paves the way for the next block of Marvel films, which should hopefully be revealed in the coming weeks.
Despite releasing on a Tuesday – as opposed to a Friday – it looks like the odd drop date hasn’t stopped MCU fans, who flocked to theaters to check out Spidey’s latest adventure. As reported by MovieWeb, Far From Home took in a whopping $39.3 million domestically on its first day.
This number might not seem too high, but once you take into account that it came out in the middle of the workweek, it all starts to make sense. Ironically, this means that Spider-Man’s newest outing has set a record for the largest opening day haul for a movie released on a Tuesday, besting the previous champion, The Amazing Spider-Man, which took in $35 million back in July 2012.
Interestingly, Box Office Mojo seems to indicate that Far From Home has broken another record. When looking at daily records, Star: Wars: The Force Awakens currently has the highest gross on a Tuesday with $37.3 million. All of this success shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Fans are desperate to see a post-Avengers Endgame MCU, and reviews for Far From Home have been largely positive – it currently boasts a 93 percent (and a Must-See designation) on Rotten Tomatoes.
Of course, there’s always the chance that more box office records will be broken in the near future. After all, official ticket sales figures for Spider-Man: Far From Home are slowly trickling in, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated on its performance in the coming days.
