Not for the first time, concept artist extraordinaire BossLogic has produced a rather moving, poignant piece in honor of the late Stan Lee.
The Marvel Comics luminary and all-around creative powerhouse passed away on Monday morning at the age of 95, prompting a mass outpouring of love and support from the four corners of the industry. Fast forward to now, and everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to SpaceX founder Elon Musk have commemorated Lee’s inimitable legacy, which has been placed front and center thanks to this incredible piece of artwork from BossLogic.
Bringing together some of Stan Lee’s most famous creations, this particularly somber graveyard scene came bearing the following caption:
Farewell! Last tribute piece, was my initial idea to do something like this from the start, this one took a bit more time. Mixed a few characters @TheRealStanLee created with some I wanted in there #ripstanlee #Excelsior still can’t believe he is gone.
Lean a little closer and you’ll be able to spot the Mad Titan himself, Thanos, who can be seen standing just behind Doctor Doom and Thor as Marvel’s most famous characters pay their respects to their founding father. Well, co-founding father, as Stan Lee conceived the idea for Marvel Comics alongside the equally great Jack Kirby back in 1961.
By 2018, the Marvel brand has truly been through the mill – things looked to have taken a turn for the worse when the Powers That Be field for bankruptcy in ’96, ultimately selling a lot of their precious assets to 20th Century Fox and Universal. But like a red-hot phoenix rising from the ashes, Marvel is now one of the biggest companies in entertainment, and with Captain Marvel, Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home all slated for release in 2019, that status is unlikely to change anytime soon.
Because so long as the MCU continues to dominate multiplexes the world over, Stan Lee‘s legacy will never be too far away.
